The year of its anniversary the House of the Black Heads* has received a special gift – a silver orchid from the silversmith Oļegs Auzers. Since after a longer break the House has finally been re-opened, its guests are welcome to see one the most impressive silver collections in the Baltic States.
As a gift for the significant anniversary of the House of the Black Heads, the silversmith Oļegs Auzers has created a beautiful silver orchid. To quote the artist O. Auzers himself: “The great philosopher Confucius thought that an orchid blossom can banish evil spirits from a person and protect people and their households, as well as bring love and harmony into their houses. That is exactly what I wish to the House of the Black Heads and the people who together create what can be called the soul of this house!”
At the moment this intricate silver piece of art is available for public viewing alongside other artworks from the silver collection.
Presently the silver collection of the House of the Black Heads contains various pieces created by craftsmen of Europe and Riga in the previous centuries, as well as modern items that have been crafted in different parts of the world, including multiple pieces made by the silversmith Oļegs Auzers. The Fruit vase, which he created in 2000, is still one of his most remarkable silver artworks in the whole exhibit. Oļegs Auzers admits that this piece was a turning point in his creative work, after which he made multiple sculptural silver designs. Many of his decorative items can be viewed in the House of the Black Heads, such as the Strawberry, Gooseberry, Sweet peas, Poppies, Lilies-of-the-valley, Water-lily and Gladiolus.
The exhibit of the silver artwork in the House of the Black Heads can be visited four days a week:
- on Thursdays and Fridays from 12.00 P.M. to 5.00 P.M.;
